Inevitable - Charcoal by alegreghi Inevitable - Charcoal by alegreghi
- - - - F U L L V I E W - - - -

Some time ago I inscribe my piece [link] in a competition here in Brazil. In the day after that my teacher told me he wants that piece to be in a exposition in MUBE (Brazilian museum of sculpture).
So i had 2 weeks to do a new piece. That's the result.

Charcoal, black pastel and black conté pencil in card paper. No white involved.
I used a pic from :iconharlettescreamfight: as reference.

Valeu mesmo!
Não... não é o Destino não. Uma das coisas que eu me arrependo na vida foi nunca ter lido Sandman.
Não é o "Destino" mas tem a ver com isso... hehehe

Thank you! That's what I intended to do. Using the light as a path to the eye through the piece.
Thank you very much for the comment.

Thank you. I wish you could see the original. The picture doesn't reveal the small differences in the tones (sorry, i couldn't find a better word).

The lighting on this is totally awesome, as is the way she's sort of retreating from the source.

I actually thought it was a photograph when I first looked at it. The way you've built up the shading around the highlights is quite amazing. I like the sharply defined contours of the face, the way the subtle shading gives it shape and depth. The pose is interesting, too. Not often does one see well-executed "below, looking up" angles like this. The entire work gives off a sense of solemn intensity, which is definitely a hard one to convey accurately.

The only minor problem I have with this piece is the hand. The thumb seems to be too sharply angled downwards. Maybe it's just the angle, but it still looks off to me. I'm not too fond of the sharp outlines on the fingers, either - it seems a bit out of place when you compare the hand to the smoothness of the shading on the face.

Overall, though, an excellently rendered piece!

Thank you very much. This is a kind of comment i really like... specially because i have your criticism inside.
Well... lets go:
I had to do this piece quickly, and i had a photo as reference. In fact i had 2 pics as reference... one of a bronze statue that i found in the internet and the other i took myself, with the light i wont. I understand what you are complaining about, but i can assure you, seeing the original you doesn't have this "sharp" perception on angles... about the outlines i did like this... is something i like sometimes... it's a way to give an "not like a photograph" look!
